Portable Appliance Testing The "In service inspection and testing of portable hand held equipment", more commonly known as PAT testing, is generally used by companies and organisations to ensure that their electrical equipment is safe for their employees to use. Generally Portable Appliance Testing is carried out annually and any minor rectifications are carried out at the time of testing. For more serious failures the customer will be notified and the equipment will be taken out of service until it can be repaired.
